A traditional VELUX skylight and the VELUX Sun Tunnel® skylight provide a way to bring bright, natural daylight into a home. However, there are a few key differences between the two.
VELUX skylights feature a large piece of double or triple-layered glass with a glazing to reduce heat gain. They are available with a fixed or venting option and installed on a roof. They come in a variety of sizes and shapes and provide more light than a Sun Tunne. They are able to open with the touch of a button to let in fresh air. Solar-powered skylight shades can be operated to control the amount of daylight coming into a room. Traditional skylights will fit in larger spaces and can visually expand areas in a home.
VELUX Sun Tunnel skylights are tubular daylighting devices available in 10" and 14" sizes for residential homes and in 22" for commercial buildings. Sun Tunnels come with a domed lens to capture sunlight throughout the day and channel it through a diffused lens to the space below. There are also low-profile domes and flat glass options. The tube is available in a rigid version for maximum daylight and a flexible version to maneuver the light around attic obstacles. VELUX Sun Tunnel skylights are made of a pre-fabricated light tunnel, which allows for a faster installation than a traditional skylight.
