How much light does a VELUX Sun Tunnel® skylight let in?

1 min. readlast update: 12.10.2025

The amount of daylight a Sun Tunnel® lets in depends on a number of factors, including roof orientation (i.e., the south is always best), tunnel length, tunnel angles, time of day, and season of the year.

On an average sunny day, a 10" VELUX rigid Sun Tunnel can produce 3,000- 4,800 lumens. This is the equivalent of 3 100-watt incandescent lightbulbs. On that same sunny day, a 14" VELUX rigid Sun Tunnel can produce upwards of 10,000 lumens, which is equal to 6 100-watt incandescent lightbulbs. A VELUX flexible Sun Tunnel produces fewer lumens than a rigid sun tunnel, but can still produce light equal to 3 80-watt lightbulbs on a sunny day.
