How do I pair a VELUX wall remote to a skylight shade?

To begin pairing a wall remote to a skylight shade, first confirm the correct wall remote. Skylight shades are operated with either a KLI 310 or KLI 312 wall remote.

Once the correct remote is confirmed, check its batteries.

If the remote is new, first check the red battery tab. Not all basic remotes have a red battery tab, but if the remote is NEW, it's worth checking. Remove the red tab and confirm its length, then confirm there is no residue left in the battery cavity.

Next, check to see that the remote has working batteries (2 AAA, 1.5v). Even if the remote is new, try changing the batteries if pairing continues to fail. Remove the remote back with hands or a small flat head screwdriver.

If the shade and remote are new, try the new registration procedure. Note this only works for new shades and new basic remotes.

First, confirm that the shade is powered on. To turn on the shade, locate the circle button (new generation) or slider switch (previous generation) underneath the right-side head casing of the shade.

Circle Button:

  • To turn on: 1 quick button press, then you will hear 2 long buzzes. If your shade is already on, it will not make a sound.
  • To turn off: 2 rapid button presses, then you will hear 5 short buzzes.

Slider Switch:

  • To turn on: Slide switch to the left towards the ON position.
  • To turn off: Slide switch to the middle for the OFF position.

Once the shade is on, it should be pre-paired to the remote. No additional setup will be needed.

If the remote does not pair immediately with the shade, press stop for 1 second, then down for 1 second.

If the shade still doesn't pair to the remote, try resetting and pairing with the following steps.

First, reset the shade. If the skylight shade has a circle button, hold the button for 10 seconds. If it has the slider switch, hold the switch to the right for 10 seconds. The shade will buzz or begin to cycle once it has reset.

Next, pair the remote.

  1. On the bottom of the remote, use the end of a paper clip or similar object to press the pairing button for 1 second.
  2. Press the center stop button for 1 second.
  3. Within 3 seconds of pressing the stop button, press the down button for 1 second.
  4. Pairing is now complete.
